New Energies Reveals Early Findings from its Study on Energy Transition Costs at LISW 2025

calendarSeptember 18, 2025
On September 18th, during the London International Shipping Week 2025, the New Energies Coalition had the privilege of co-hosting a dynamic roundtable with ERM and Movin'On on a pivotal question: what will it cost to decarbonise global shipping? The session unveiled early findings of our joint study, The Cost of the Energy Transition for Shipping, offering new insights into the economic realities of maritime decarbonization. Key takeaways:
  • Achieving IMO net zero targets could increase the average costs of shipping by 50% by 2040.
  • However, inaction would lead to even greater costs, making the transition the most cost-effective path forward.
  • The availability and pricing of biofuels and e-fuels will be decisive factors.
  • For consumers, the impact on goods prices will remain minimal — less than +0.5% by 2040 for studied goods.
The roundtable brought together stakeholders from across the shipping value chain to explore pathways for a smart, collaborative, and cost-effective transition. 📢 The full study will be published soon — stay tuned for more insights ! 🔗 See our post on Linkedin
