New Energies Coalition study : What is the Cost of Greener Shipping?

calendarNovember 17, 2025
One month after the International Maritime Organization (IMO) postponed the vote on a global Net Zero framework, the New Energies Coalition, in partnership with Movin'On, and with contributions from ERM and Waves Group, releases a new study: What is the Cost of Greener Shipping?. The report assesses the true costs, trade-offs, and opportunities to achieve Net Zero in global shipping, targeting a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and 70% by 2040. Key findings:
  • Cost of transition: +20% in transport costs by 2030, +50% by 2040 if IMO targets are met
  • Impact on consumers: less than 0.5% on goods prices
  • Technological and energy solutions: alternative fuels and innovations to cut emissions
  • Role of policy and finance: collaboration is essential among industry, policymakers, freight buyers, and financial actors
The report highlights that the transition is feasible and manageable, but only if all stakeholders act and collaborate now. 👉 View the LinkedIn post 👉 Access the report (Resources page)
