Declaration of Cooperation Signed to Accelerate Nuclear Solutions for Maritime Decarbonization

calendarNovember 06, 2025
Paris, November 2025 — The New Energies Coalition and its members Bureau Veritas, CMA CGM, and Onet Group, together with over 30 European partners, have signed the Declaration of Cooperation for Accelerating Nuclear for Maritime Applications.

The agreement, formalized at the World Nuclear Exhibition (WNE 2025) in Paris, represents an important step in fostering collaboration between the nuclear and maritime sectors. It aims to explore the potential of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and other advanced nuclear technologies to contribute to the safe and sustainable decarbonization of shipping and port operations.

"This declaration marks an important milestone in aligning nuclear and maritime expertise to accelerate decarbonization,"
said Matthieu de Tugny, Executive Vice President, Bureau Veritas.

"The role of nuclear energy in maritime decarbonization is emerging with both promise and responsibility,"
emphasized Christine Cabau Woehrel, Executive Vice President, CMA CGM and Chair of the Coalition Steering Committee.

"This initiative illustrates the need for coordinated international efforts toward a sustainable and resilient maritime future,"
added Émilie de Lombarès, Chairwoman of the Executive Board, Onet Group.

The declaration reflects the Coalition's mission: connecting industries, fostering knowledge sharing, and supporting innovation for a low-carbon, sustainable maritime sector.
